Work in Progress

The ghia came with a stock engine pulled from a nameless donor bug. I don't know any history on the engine except that noting the left and right side heads didn't match, the great quantity of red RTV everywhere and some improperly installed parts, it is obvious that the engine has been pieced together and not expertly.

The first indication was that the engine wasn't bolted tightly to the transmission. The clutch in this picture is the result. The clutch flexed at each revolution because the tranny and engine weren't aligned and it finally gave up. This can also pound out your case, but I was fortunate. The case was still good. The other picture is just how messy the engine was when I got it. The push rod tubes were destroyed and it was leaking other places too.

Finally after going through 8 quarts of oil in less than 1000 miles, I decided the whole engine would get rebuilt. My goal is to eventually get a much higher horsepower motor, but I want the car running in the meantime.
